The following is the document I did back in June when we reopened and just details the additional things we do as a result of Covid.
These are comprehensive additional procedures as a result of Covid19 from 30/6/2020, re checked on 5/11/2020.
This is to keep you, our customers together with your family and friends, safe during the current lockdown and beyond.

IMPORTANT COVID19 ADDITIONAL RULES FOR ANDOVER BUFFETS
Dated 30/6/2020 (checked 5/11/2020 against FSA advice – no changes required)
Re opening checklist completed.
Awareness training in all of the below by Jane Berntsen & Ashley Berntsen (i.e. all staff), Andover Buffets Limited Dated 30/6/2020.
Additional Kitchen Rules:
In addition to our opening and closing schedules
- Clean cloths and frequent handwashing are already part of our daily opening process but the HIGH importance of this is keenly recognised. Hands to be washed for 20 seconds using anti-bac soap making sure that all parts of hands, fingers, nails and wrists are clean as a bare minimum: at the beginning of day, after each task, after going to the toilet, after touching face and when leaving/returning to the kitchen.
- Worktops are always thoroughly cleaned down at opening and closing and in between each individual cooking task and if shopping has been unpacked and put away, but again the HIGH IMPORTANCE of this is keenly recognised.
- Social distancing. Our work-stations are actually more than 2 metres apart under normal conditions. Additionally, it is our home so social distancing is not applicable/feasible. Customers do not come to the house under normal circumstances. We always deliver. Other household members (our 2 son’s) are generally discouraged to be in the kitchen, but in addition will be prohibited whilst we are preparing/cooking food during the COVID19 pandemic crisis.
- Wearing of disposable gloves during food preparation. Given the conflicting evidence we have decided the safest way is to wash hands regularly rather than wear gloves in the kitchen.
- Hand sanitiser is also positioned on the shelf in the hall-way for anyone leaving / or entering the building to use in addition to hand washing. I additional we always carry anti bac gel and wipes if we are out, regardless of business or pleasure.
- As many windows to be opened as possible to allow for good circulation of air.
- Doors – all doors to the kitchen to be left open so as to limit touching of door handles.
- Fridge and cooker handles to be wiped down at mid-point during the day as well as opening and closing.
Additional Bathroom Rules:
- Where possible other house-hold members to use upstairs toilet when kitchen is in operation.
- 20 second intensive hand washing and disposable towels, door handles to be wiped inside and out with spray and paper towel after each use.
Additional Staffing Rules:
- Our temperatures are taken in the morning and in the evening to check they are normal. In fact this measure was introduced on March 10th 2020 (ie before the lockdown) due to the increasing concerns regarding the COVID19 Pandemic and is exactly how we identified that we had the virus on 16th March 2020 and so we immediately put our household in to quarantine for 14 days at that point. Once the antibody test is made available to all we will seek to obtain the test ASAP.
- Social distancing – we have and will continue to have respect for the government guidelines on general social distancing (ie in our personal lives) and continue to encourage this same level of respect from the rest of the household.
Additional Delivery Rules:
In addition to our normal delivery process of disposable platters which are delivered in washable delivery bags/boxes with ice blocks which are washed and/or refrozen daily.
- Hands to be washed as above prior to packing into car.
- Car door handles inc boot and steering wheel wiped down with anti bac wipe prior to leaving.
- Hand sanitiser and/or wipes to be carried at all times.
- We will wear washable face covering during the delivery process. This may include several deliveries in a delivery round. These will be washed daily on 60 degree wash.
- We will wear disposable gloves whilst doing each delivery. Gloves will put on once boot is open and will be changed at each delivery point, pulled off and turned inside out and put in the bin in the car and hand sanitiser used to disinfect hands before shutting boot and leaving to next delivery.
- Social distancing: a 2-metre distance will be kept to at all times if possible whilst making the delivery. Customers will be encouraged to take delivery at their door, however, if we have to go into the premises, we will ask that the occupant opens all doors so that we do not touch doors/handles. Or change gloves again if this is not possible.
- All our food is always delivered in single use platters with lids. Those will allergies or special requirements are always given their own individual platter to avoid any contamination as these requirements are established PRIOR to food preparation. However, as an additional service, all customers will be offered the choice of normal communal platters or for individual platters as each booking comes in.
