The Food Standards Agency – The Food Standards Agency is an independent Government department set up by an Act of Parliament in 2000 to protect the public’s health and consumer interests in relation to food. The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme is a partnership initiative run with local authorities which inspect businesses, to give consumers information about hygiene standards found at the time of inspection – Its ratings range from 0 meaning ‘Urgent Improvement Necessary’ through to its top rating of 5 meaning the business was found to have ‘very good’ hygiene standards.
